God Lacks Partiality

God Lacks Partiality

Ben Davidson

With 7 billion people on the planet, we can put ourselves in multiple categories whether it be geographical location, social class, work status, gender, and so on. Sometimes we tend to elevate ourselves above others who are not similar in that regard. But God does not do that. He shows no partiality. This fact is stated in multiple scriptures throughout the Bible.

God’s lack of partiality is first illustrated in the Old Testament. In Deuteronomy 10:17, Moses notes “The Lord is the God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.”

In Galatians 3:28, Paul explicitly states “There is neither Jew or Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female, for you are all in one in Christ Jesus. And, if you are Christ’s then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

The many divisions we deal with here on earth that often cause strife and bitterness are man-made, not from God. As little children in Sunday school we sang “Red and yellow, black and white, they are precious in his sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world.” But as adults… do we live that thought? Do we treat our fellow humans as God does, with no partiality?

The passage from John 3:16 is often quoted and well known: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” This passage is often used to illustrate God’s love. But it also re-enforces the concept of God’s lack of partiality. WHOEVER believes in him! Whoever can be anyone no matter of the category they fall into. No matter where you are from, no matter what gender you are, no matter if you are short, tall, skinny, overweight, blue eyed, brown eyed, rich, or poor. God gave his son for YOU to have eternal life.
