Why Believe in God? Intelligent Design

Among the many arguments that provide a logical basis and understanding for the existence of God, perhaps there is none more powerful than that of intelligent design. When we observe the macro of the universe and the micro of our complex environment, it is imperative that there is a designer behind it all.
In 1953, a monumental discovery was made concerning our molecular makeup. James Watson and Francis Crick are responsible for unveiling the double-helix structure of DNA. Deoxyribonucleic acid was originally discovered in 1869, but many of its components, including its double strand structure, remained a mystery for nearly a century until the hypothesis and discovery in 1953. Within the DNA structure are the nucleotides, running between the two strands, that have information stored away. Many, including Bill Gates, spoke of this information like a code when writing a software. The information found in DNA follows a succinct, orderly pattern.
When archaeologists discover writings such as hieroglyphics, they automatically start looking for the culture or mind who wrote the characters. When we see writing, like the information displayed in DNA, we likewise must assume it was put there, rather than it appearing by “chance.” No one, at least in their right mind, reads a novel and thinks to themself “wow, I’m so glad the universe randomly generated letters, lined them up as words, perfectly incorporated grammar, and even crafted a beautiful plot” — that is nonsensical! Of course, someone wrote the novel! It did not “just appear.” Yet, that is the same train of thought for those who dismiss the existence of God.
Mankind displays so many dimensions of God’s existence, whether it’s the mystery of the conscience, the moral and ethical ties we all experience, a stark uniqueness from other living things, or even the molecular structure. Not only do we display evidence of a God, we have His writing in our very depths. Consider the fact that it took thousands of years for mankind to even discover the hidden mystery of DNA. Folks, there is still so much more to be discovered and it is my conviction as we encounter more discoveries, the more the evidence will point to God. Where there is design there must be a designer.
“Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
Who determined its measurements — surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?”
