A Dose of Medicine

A Dose of Medicine

We are often heard saying, “Laughter is the best medicine.” Scripture says it this way:

“A joyful heart makes a cheerful face…”

“A joyful heart is good medicine…”

(Proverbs 15:13; 17:22)

So, let’s laugh: Most of us try to do the best at whatever we do. We will even go above and beyond the call of duty to make sure we are doing a good job. The farmer’s son is ace in point. The lad was returning from the market with a case of chickens his father had entrusted to him, when all of a sudden the box fell and broke open. Chickens scurried off in all directions, but the determined boy walked all over the neighborhood, scooping up the wayward birds and returning them to the repaired crate. Hoping he had found them all, the boy reluctantly returned home, expecting the worst.

“Pa, the chickens got loose,” he confessed sadly, “but I managed to find all 12 of them.”

“Well, you did really good, son,” the farmer beamed, “you left with seven.”
