Here is God

Here is God

Brett Petrillo

In an old mariner's chart drawn in 1525, the cartography made some very intriguing notations at certain areas of the map. He wrote: 'Here be giants,' 'Here be fiery scorpions,' and 'Here be dragons.' Eventually, the map came into the possession of Sir John Franklin, a British explorer in the early 1800s. Scratching out the fearful inscriptions, Franklin wrote these words across the map: 'HERE IS GOD'.

I'm not sure what made John Franklin feel the need to scribble across the map. No matter his intentions, he got the location for God correct: He is everywhere.

It's a great reminder which we often forget. God's eyes are everywhere (Proverbs 15:3). There is nowhere we can go where God is absent (Psalm 139:7-10). Nothing is hidden from God's sight (Hebrews 4:13). Everything is open and laid bare before His eyes.

God lays it out plainly in Jeremiah 23:24, "'Can a man hide himself in hiding places so I do not see him?' declares the LORD. 'Do I not fill the heavens and the earth?' declares the LORD."

If we're looking for a relationship with Him, He isn't far. If we think we're escaping from Him, He isn't far. If we think we aren't being seen, He isn't far. Let's live like God is here. Because He is.
